Most of us do not know who we are. We think we know but the truth is we can only go back a few generations. We don't really know our true origins. Genetic testing for genealogical purposes has proven that there is so much more that we can discover about ourselves and our ancestral origins. Are you really English, Irish, German, African, or whatever you appear to be? Thus far everyone that I have worked with has discovered they are not.
It is a wonderful journey to take and all have enjoyed the trip.I'm going to show you a few things that I've learned about myself. First, this is my male lineage. Only part of my male line and not nearly all of my Genetic make-up.
We'll start with my father and his father and on and on through the male line back into the distant past. This does not include my father's mother's family or any of the rest of my DNA. My middle name is ARTHUR and that name is used often throughout our family, including my male cousins.
The youtube film gives an explanation of why the name was important. This is where our ancestral home still stands in the Forest of Dean, I was there in 1999 and the home/cottage is near an ancient village called Hope Mansel. The church was built in 1121. The home is in a remote and beautiful area within the forest.
One of the first records of a Hatton family in the area is that of Sir Hugh de Hatton in the 1100s.
The "Royal Forest of Dean" a people who quite different than the rest of England.
My father's male lineage is called Orcadian. Orcadian is a mixture of Pict, Scottish and Viking. They first lived on the Orkney Islands off the Northern Coast of Scotland. The Irish are also included in this group. My entire DNA includes Orcadian, French, Spanish, Basque, Finnish, Italian from Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany etc. and Romanian [this includes the Germanic people]. Soon FTDNA we will be able to break these groups down even further,
For me the journey continues. Each of us fits into a group much like a clan called a haplogroup. My father's male line falls into a subgroup of haplogroup RIBI etc. and my mother into haplogroup I a rare and the second oldest haplogroup of the Eight Daughters of Eve. In her case we know her female line goes back to a Viking woman who settled a very long time ago in Ireland. If you have any questions just contact me through the CONTACT PAGE ON THIS SITE..
